When To Fly

When air freight is worth the premium

Air costs several times sea. Sometimes that is the cheapest decision available, and sometimes it is money thrown away. The honest test:

A deadline with a penalty

If missing the buyer’s date costs an order, a chargeback or a customer, air is usually cheaper than the consequence.

High value per kilogram

Surgical instruments, electronics and precision components carry freight cost easily. Bulk commodities rarely do.

Samples & pre-production

Getting a sample approved a fortnight sooner can pull the entire production schedule forward.

Perishable or short shelf-life

Where sea transit would consume the product’s usable life, air is the only real option.

Replacing a shortfall

Part of a sea consignment short-shipped or rejected — flying the balance keeps the order whole.

Season recovery

When a production delay has already eaten the sea window, air buys back the calendar.

How an air export moves

Jinnah International is the gateway. The timeline is shorter than sea, which means documentation errors have far less room to be fixed.

1 · Booking

Space booked with the airline against your dimensions and chargeable weight; flight and routing confirmed.

2 · Pickup

Cargo collected from your premises and delivered to the airport cargo terminal.

3 · Export clearance

Export GD filed and cleared. On air shipments this is the step most likely to cost you a flight if documents are wrong.

4 · Acceptance & build-up

Cargo accepted, screened and built onto pallets or ULDs for the flight.

5 · AWB & departure

Air Waybill issued and departure confirmed to you with flight details.

6 · Arrival handling

Documents released to your consignee or destination agent for import clearance.

How is air freight priced — actual weight or volume?
On chargeable weight, which is the greater of actual gross weight and volumetric weight. Volumetric weight is calculated from the dimensions of the consignment, so light but bulky cargo is priced on the space it occupies. Send us dimensions as well as weight and we will tell you which one applies before you commit.
Can you arrange air freight for consignments from Sialkot or Lahore?
Yes. Surgical instruments, sports goods and similar cargo regularly move to us from upcountry for consolidation and air export through Karachi. Tell us where the cargo originates and we will handle the collection and the export leg.
What is the cut-off for an air shipment?
It varies by airline and flight, and it is tighter than most exporters expect once screening and build-up are accounted for. The practical constraint is usually export clearance rather than the flight itself — send documents early and the rest follows.
